Winter Long Weekend in Mont-Tremblant
Only 386 miles away from Boston, here is how we enjoyed this long weekend getaway on our recent trip to Mont-Tremblant.
Time stopped when we stepped into this winter wonderland. A little dramatic right?
But trust me I am not over exaggerating. Being a travel enthusiast on a budget and time constraint, I look for different experiences, places , anything I havenβt seen before. Mont-Tremblant didnβt fail me.
Here is how I spent a February long weekend in Mont-Tremblant with my husband and a dear friend. The drive from Boston is around 6.5 hours on the map. Taking into consideration our three breaks and passage-time through the border, it took us around 8.5 hours to reach Mont-Tremblant.
Mont-Tremblant Summit
The Tremblant summit sits at 2871 feet offering a stunning view of the Laurentians. Known as βThe mountain of the Spiritsβ, you can reach the highest peak by enclosed panoramic gondola (need to buy tickets) which leaves from the Upper pedestrian village of the Mont-Tremblant resort.
While we enjoyed the beautiful views and had a delicious lunch at the summit, itβs a lovely place for skiing, snowshoeing and snowboarding. The energy and excitement around us motivated me to book my first ski lesson back home!
The Pedestrian Village
The pedestrian village is like a colorful fairytale reminding you of the European towns and villages. Adding to its glory is the beautiful layer of snow, making it even more picturesque and surreal. Ride the free ropeway (called Cabriolet) to move between upper and lower sections of the pedestrian village. The views from the Cabriolet and the Gondola are mesmerizing to say the least.
The pedestrian village has plenty of shopping and dining options. There is even a casino called Casino de Mont Tremblant which can be reached by a Gondola or a shuttle bus. Try your luck at North Americaβs only ski-in, ski-out casino where your ski gear will be checked in and comfortable crocs will be provided. Whether you wish to spend time with family or go bar hopping at night, the village has it all.
Food/Drink suggestions:
Smokes Poutinerie is a perfect take out place to satisfy your Poutine cravings.
Head to Fat Mardi’s for comfort fried food and beer. We loved the fried calamari, chicken wings and fish tacos.
We also liked Microbrasserie La Diable for dinner, drinks and desserts!
Mont-Tremblant National Park
Although Mont-Tremblant resort itself is part of the national park, there is a separate entrance to the park 30 minutes away (by car) from the pedestrian village. There is a fee to get inside the national park and you can find more information on the trails and rentals at the visitor center.
Since we were pressed for time, we chose to hike the La Roche trail. The kind lady at the visitor center informed us that the view from top is what we see in all the postcards and we were sold. It was my first time hiking in the snow and as promised, the panoramic view of the frozen lake from the top was rewarding. It took us 2.5 hours altogether including the time spent at the lookout.
This was also the first time I encountered a frozen waterfall which left me speechless at first sight. Since it was February, there were no auto-trails available due to the snow. However, there are plenty of snow-shoeing, skiing and hiking trails you can go for.
Accomodation
Since this was a last minute plan, I did not have time to look for fancy hotel deals and book in advance. There are plenty of comfortable and convenient hotels around the village. Having said that, I loved our no-frill budget hotel (Auberge Mountain View Inn) considering it was value for money and gave us a view of a family of deer making their way through mesmerizing snow-covered flora every morning during breakfast. Yes, you read it right! The gorgeous beings come up to the Inn to munch on their daily dose of carrots, lovingly put out by the hotel staff. I couldnβt have hoped for a better start to our morning!
While we made the most of our time in Mont-Tremblant, we unfortunately couldnβt make it to the Scandinave spa (which I had heard rave reviews about) – something that we look forward to trying the next time we visit this winter oasis! For now, it is Au Revoir!
